Report: Derek Carr considered an ‘extreme long shot’ to play in Super Bowl

Derek Carr

Should the Oakland Raiders make it to the Super Bowl without team MVP Derek Carr under center, it looks like he won’t be able to return for the big game.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Carr is considered an “extreme long shot” to play in the Super Bowl should the Raiders make it that far.

Carr’s current timetable to return from the broken fibula he suffered last Saturday is six-to-eight weeks. That would be an indication that he’d miss Super Bowl 51 in Houston.

Though, at least one respected surgeon expressed confindence that Carr might be able to play. The quarterback himself also sent some positive vibes following surgery on Tuesday.

That’s all fine and dandy, but injuries take a certain time to heal. And in reality, Carr likely won’t see the field again this season. Of course, all this is dependent on the Raiders actually making it that far in the playoffs with Matt McGloin under center. That in and of itself should be considered a long shot as well.
