Report: Cam Newton was benched for dress code violation

NFL stars

When the Carolina Panthers took to the field on offense for the first time Sunday night, something was missing. More importantly, someone was missing.

Reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton was not on the field with his team. He was healthy. He was at CenturyLink in Seattle. He was, however, benched to open the game for what was than an unknown violation of team rules. It’s in this that backup quarterback Derek Anderson proceeded to throw an interception in his first and only attempt of the game (watch here).

We now know why Newton was benched to open the game.

That’s random. It’s also a bit childish on the part of the Panthers. What exactly was Cam wearing that was so offfensive to the team? It’s not like his wardrobe in the past has been on the conservative side.

This will definitely be something interesting to follow in the days to come. As it is, Carolina is finding itself getting absolutely blown out against the Seahawks in Seattle.
