Falcons WR Julio Jones has sprained toe, not turf toe

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn broke some rather interesting news regarding his All Pro wide receiver. Julio Jones missed last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with what was being reported as turf toe.

Apparently, that’s not the case. Jones, who is again not practicing on Wednesday, is dealing with a sprained toe. This, according to Quinn.

That’s an important distinction to make. It means that Jones’ injury is less severe and will likely impact him at a smaller clip down the road.

At 8-5 on the season, Atlanta is currently tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the top spot in the NFC South. It hosts a one-win San Francisco 49ers squad on Sunday, which means the Falcons can play it close to the vest with Jones in Week 15.

Though, the team is surely going to need him back in the mix if it hopes to make the playoffs and do some damage. Despite missing last week’s game, Jones still leads the NFL with 1,253 receiving yards. This comes on the heels of a 2015 campaign that saw him lead the league in both receptions and receiving yards. Needless to say, he’s an important aspect of what the team does on offense.
