Emmitt Smith to Cowboys: ‘Go get your ring’

Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith was on hand in Dallas as his former Cowboys team beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. It was awesome to see Smith react to the performance rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott put up.

Still close to the Cowboys’ organization and someone who has had a few things to say during the team’s struggles in recent seasons, Smith seems to be really excited about its turnaround this season.

In sending a message to Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys following their latest win, Smith had this to say.

“It was great going to the Cowboy game tonight to see them against the Bucs. It was even more awesome to watch Zeke (Elliott) do it in person …” Smith said. “And I am so proud of the Dallas Cowboys right now. These boys are on their way to try to accomplish one of these three things you see behind me right now. So, I wish them the best of luck. Much love for Dak. Much love for Zeke. And definitely much love for my Dallas Cowboys. Good luck, guys. Stay healthy, and go get your ring.”

In reality, this Cowboys team is performing at a level we have not seen since Smith joined Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin to form the triplets back in the 1990s. Whether a ring is in the future this upcoming February remains to be seen.

What we do know is that Dallas currently sits at 12-2 on the season and has the inside track for home-field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs.

As it relates to Elliott, he’s just 223 yards away from besting Smith’s single-best rushing performance and could break the Cowboys’ single-season rushing record with 297 yards in the final two games.
