New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered what’s being called a perforated lung in his team’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.
The injury came when Gronkowski was tagged by Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas on a play both players have since called clean. For his part, Thomas has wished Gronkowski a speedy recovery.
Though, Gronkowski’s availability for this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers is now in question. He has not yet been cleared for air travel, a concrete indication that the tight end might not make the trip to Santa Clara.

In addition to the lung injury, Gronkowski is said to have suffered an injury to the chest area.
Remember, the Pro Bowler was hobbled earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. If Gronkowski is not able to go this week, Martellus Bennett will take over as the Pats’ starting tight end against a one-win San Francisco team on Sunday.
