Seahawks to stand together, link arms for anthem on Sunday

There have been rumors swirling around the past few days about what the Seattle Seahawks would be doing to show their unified front.

Doug Baldwin answered all of our questions with a short video on his Twitter account.

“We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds,” Baldwin said in the video. “And as a team, we have chosen to stand and interlock arms in unity. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish. And we stand to ensure that the riches of freedom, and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together.”

Being that Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the infamous September 11 attacks that took the lives of nearly 3,000 people, many will laud this move by the Seahawks.

The NFL itself plans to commemorate the date with an intense display of patriotism (more on that here).

On the other hand, one wonders how a guy like Jeremy Lane, who sat on the bench in Week 4 of the preseason, will feel.

And there are many others who support the movement, started by Colin Kaepernick, to highlight and protest police brutality against minorities in America.

Will they feel it’s a form of pressure meant to silence the movement? Will they feel the NFL has put pressure on the Seahawks to do this thing?

No doubt, there will be strong reactions on both sides of this issue.

The one thing we should all be able to agree on, however, is that the events that occurred 15 years ago deserve to be remembered with respect. So also do the views, opinions and statements of all Americans.
