San Francisco 49ers OL Anthony Davis has retired again

So much for the comeback. According to the team’s official Twitter feed, San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis has once again retired from the National Football League.

Davis, a first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010, started all 64 games in his first four seasons with the team.

However, Davis missed the final nine games of the 2014 season with multiple injuries, including a concussion. This led to the former Rutgers star announcing his retirement following the 2014 campaign.

After a year off, Davis then decided to return to the 49ers this past spring, earning the starting guard job in the process.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last too long. Just a couple days prior to San Francisco’s regular season opener, Davis didn’t show up for practice. He was left as a healthy inactive in the team’s shutout win over the Los Angeles Rams, leading some to believe he was leaning towards retiring once again.

Now, it appears that Davis is done with the game for good. It’s an odd ending to what was once such a promising career.

Davis leaves the game at just 26 years old.
