San Francisco 49ers offensive linemen Anthony Davis has applied for re-instatement to the NFL.

The former starting right tackle for the 49ers took 2015 off as a retired player at the age of 26 after just five years of NFL football. However, he felt he needed a year off to recover from injuries that he had sustained throughout his entire life playing football.
Now, he feels like he’s healed up enough to get back into the game and start competing for his old job again.
Chip Kelly is at the helm of the 49ers now, and the offensive line is being headed by Joe Staley at left tackle with the rest of the entire offensive line up for grabs. Zane Beadles, 2016 first-round pick Josh Garnett and 2014 third-round pick Brandon Thomas should be competing for the starting guard jobs.
Davis could have an exiting battle with Erik Pears to get his starting spot back if he is reinstated.
The 49ers expected Davis to apply for reinstatement months ago, but he hadn’t done so until today. And the 49ers need his help. If Davis can return at the same level he was once at, the 49ers should start him and enjoy having bookend tackles.
His contract would resume where it left off with five years left at around $30 million left on the deal, which would have him under contract through the 2020 season. The only real question at this point is how his teammates would want to take him back after the way he left last offseason.
