Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin announced earlier this weekend that all members of the team would stand for the national anthem with hands locked (more on that here).

It’s a way to show support for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and display unity for the protest their division rival started during the preseason.

Now comes this report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio indicating that not all members of the team were aware of the plan before it became public record on Saturday.

If true, it is definitely an interesting turn. The entire idea here was to show unity for a cause. If some of the members of the team weren’t aware, how does that show unity?

As America commemorates the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the NFL regular season gets going on the same day. This has put the entire anthem protest controversy back on the front burner.

It surely is going to be interesting to see what transpires during a day in which the league itself has planned to pay its respects to those impacted by the terrorist attacks 15 years ago.
