Bills place WR Sammy Watkins on injured reserve

Sammy Watkins

The Buffalo Bills have placed star wide receiver Sammy Watkins on injured reserve with his foot injury that’s been plaguing him for the past few weeks.

Watkins will miss at least eight weeks now.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported surgery is not needed at this time, but Watkins will still see renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews as a precaution.

Rex Ryan had indicated earlier in the day that the Bills viewed this as a “major concern,” and now we know it certainly is.

The injury is similar to an injury that Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones had that held him out the majority of the 2013 season.

Watkins is one of the young star receivers in the NFL. Over his first two seasons, he caught 125 passes for 2,029 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first two seasons despite quarterback questions that led to inconsistent starting quality.

The Bills have some talent behind him in Marques Goodwin, Greg Salas and Robert Woods, but none of them have the pure talent that Watkins has.
