Eagles trade with Titans for WR Dorial Green-Beckham

The Philadelphia Eagles have pulled off a trade with the Tennessee Titans to acquire receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, the team announced Tuesday.

This is a trade that makes sense for both parties.

The Eagles have been unsuccessfully searching for receivers to step up in camp this summer. It’s so bad that Nelson Agholor has been slated to start as one of the top two receivers, even though by all accounts he’s not been doing much to impress.

The Titans are receiving an offensive lineman in Dennis Kelly who has started 15 games the past three years. It’s actually quite puzzling that Philly would give him up, especially considering he was slated to be Lane Johnson’s backup this year — the same Lane Johnson who is set to be suspended 10 games for PEDs.

Tennessee is committed to pounding the ball in the running game, and as such it’s never a bad thing to stockpile offensive linemen who can play multiple positions.

Green-Beckham is entering his second year as a pro and started to come on strong last year, finishing with 32 catches for 549 yards and four touchdowns. A raw product, he is best suited for red-zone work and simple route concepts at this time.

It’s going to be interesting to see if the young receiver can excel this year, coming into a situation where he’s going to be learning a new offense. Already behind the eight ball in terms of NFL readiness from a mental and technical standpoint when he entered the league last year, he’s got a steep learning curve ahead of him.
