Report: Multiple free agents contacting the Warriors

Steve Kerr

Following the earth-shattering decision of Kevin Durant to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors, there seems to be a growing sense that the two-time defending Western Conference champions will continue to add veteran talent.

The team reportedly signed center Zaza Pachulia to replace a soon-to-be departed Andrew Bogut in Oakland. Considering it came in the form of a one-year, $2.9 million contract, it’s obvious Pachulia cares more about winning than money.

After all, there’s no reason to believe he couldn’t have received $10-plus million in today’s market. The veteran center averaged 8.6 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks a season ago.

Now comes this report Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders indicating that multiple free agents have contacted the Warriors about joining the team for the league minimum.

In order to cater to Durant’s contract demands, the Warriors had to renounce restricted free agents Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli while trading Bogut.

This means the team doesn’t have cash under the cap to add any of the top-end free agents should said players demand fair-market value.

Depending on who these veterans might be, this could continue to help the Warriors build their roster behind what promises to be one of the greatest starting lineups in Association history.

Golden State also has two trade exceptions, one for $5.4 million and the other for $3.2 million, to work with.

It will definitely be interesting to see who Golden State adds to this super team.
