Report: Mavericks, Warriors agree to Andrew Bogut trade

Andrew Bogut will reportedly be headed to the Dallas Mavericks in a trade with the Golden State Warriors, per ESPN’s Marc Stein.

This trade will not be official until July 7 when the league moratorium is over, Stein reports.

The move takes $11 million off the books for Golden State, which needed the cap space to sign Kevin Durant to the reported two-year deal worth $54.3 million. The move could also reunite Bogut with former Warriors teammate Harrison Barnes, who previously agreed to a four-year, $95 million deal with Dallas before Golden State made him an unrestricted free agent this morning.

Being that he had already accepted the offer, it seems unlikely that Barnes would renege, but we all know it can happen, thanks to DeAndre Jordan (more on that here).

Dallas hopes to pair Bogut and Barnes with veteran Dirk Nowitzki, who is also a free agent after opting out of his player option this summer. Nowitzki has said all along that he would like to stay in Dallas, but he also wants to win. It remains to be seen if he believes the Mavericks have done enough to lure him back.

When healthy, Bogut is a serviceable center who is adept at hauling in rebounds, and is scrappy defending the low post. He averaged just 5.4 points, seven rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game last year for Golden State.
