The Buffalo Bills are going to need star receiver Sammy Watkins healthy for the 2016 season if they expect to end an 16-year drought without a playoff appearance.
Watkins, a first-round pick of the team back in 2014, is coming off his first 1,000-yard season. Though, he did miss three games with a multitude of injuries.
Following the injury-plagued 2015 campaign, Watkins underwent surgery back in May to repair a broken foot he suffered earlier in the spring.
The initial prognosis was that Watkins would be out until training camp. However, Watkins just recently indicated “nobody” really knew when he’d be back on the field.
The good news for Bills fans is that Watkins has somewhat reversed course over the past couple days.
“For training camp, I think I’ll definitely be available,” Watkins said when asked when he might return, via TSN. “I might sit out two or three days. It’s all about how I feel within those days. The goal is to come back and be prepared for training camp.”
It goes without saying that Buffalo will be in a better position to compete in the AFC East should Watkins remain healthy throughout the 2016 season.
He’s by far their most electric player on offense, as evidenced by what we’ve seen from the receiver of the first two years of his career.
