Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly skips Giants OTA’s

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of many NFL players who has a lot to prove in a contract year

The New York Giants resumed their organized team activities (OTAs) on Wednesday. One person notably absent was star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

With OBJ missing, second-year wide receiver Geremy Davis took the first-team reps. And from what was observed,  Davis made all his catches and looked quite impressive.

“Geremy is a big, physical guy we can rely on,” Giants coach Ben McAdoo said after practice, per Dan Graziano of ESPN. “He knows the offense very well and seems to be hitting his stride right now.”

Regarding Beckham’s absence, a reason has not been disclosed. Though, we must keep in the mind the team activities are voluntary, and note that Beckham participated in the activities last week.

OBJ is entering his third season in the league and has already set record-breaking stats in his first two years, tallying 187 receptions for 2,755 yards and 25 touchdowns.

He’s not likely to be upstaged by Davis or any receiver at this point of his career. In fact, quite the opposite awaits in the form of a lucrative contract extension should Beckham keep up with his level of play.

OBJ’s four-year, $10.4 million rookie deal keeps him locked up with the Giants through the 2017 season. If Beckham’s non-attendance at his OTA’s is in any way connected to dollar signs, word will eventually seep out.

Whether Beckham is simply taking a day off or he continues to go MIA remains to be seen. One thing is clear. An extension at this point in the summer is highly unlikely.
