Brandon Marshall wants Ryan Fitzpatrick to sign back with the New York Jets. The two sides have been at an impasse for the majority of the offseason, but Marshall feels that Presidential candidate Donald Trump may be able to help. More specifically, Marshall feels (via Daryl Slater, NJ.com) that Trump’s book, “The Art of the Deal” could bring the two sides together.
“Both sides, they’re involved in the business side of it right now. I would say that maybe they need to read ‘The Art of the Deal’ [Donald Trump’s book]. Somebody may be reading it too much.”
While Marshall wants Fitzpatrick back, he does see both sides of the argument.
“I really like business. I put myself in the Jets’ shoes, and I put myself in Ryan’s shoes. And both have valid points. But it’ll get done, at the end of the day. It’s part of the business. Not all deals are easy deals. But a good deal is when both sides win. That’s a good deal.”
Whether Donald Trump and his book can help or not, it only makes sense that Marshall would want Fitzpatrick back.
Teamed up with the bearded Harvard grad, the 2015 season was one of the best of Marshall’s career. In addition to catching a career high 14 touchdown passes, Marshall narrowly missed career highs in receptions (109) and receiving yards (1,502). At 10-6, the 2015 season was also as close as Marshall has ever come to making the playoffs.
The bad news for Marshall and anyone else who wants to see Fitzpatrick back with Gang Green is that he’s shown little interest in returning. The good news is that he’s not planning on retiring and is still a free agent. Until one of those things changes, New York has to be considered a probable destination.
