Tony Romo a full go for Cowboys offseason program

Just one month after undergoing successful surgery to strengthen his collarbone, Tony Romo will be a full participant for the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason program, which begins on April 18.

Speaking with reporters at a All Pro Dad event Saturday, Romo confirmed an earlier report that he has been throwing the ball around pretty good. What’s crazy is that he’s been doing it for a couple of weeks now already.

I can throw fully,” Romo said, via the team’s official website. “I’ve been throwing fully here for a good week and a half, two weeks. It’s been good.”

One of the receivers who has been catching balls from Romo is Dez Bryant, who also hopes to come back with an injury-free season after missing almost half of the 2015 campaign himself with a broken foot.

Romo expressed optimism about what he’s seen from the guys he’s been working out with as they all prepare for the team’s offseason workouts.

“We’ve had a great turnout,” Romo said. “A lot of guys are wanting to get in and get after it, and I think that’s a great sign. I’m all for seeing all the guys in there every day.”

It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that the Cowboys won’t have a shot at taking advantage of their loaded roster if Romo can’t stay on the field. Much like what we saw when Peyton Manning went out of the lineup back in 2011, Dallas completely crumbled last year without its starting quarterback leading the charge.

This brings the 2016 NFL Draft into full focus as well. Will the Cowboys try and finally land a top quarterback to groom behind Romo for a few years or will they continue to build the roster around him?

As always, it’s going to be an interesting offseason for Romo and the Cowboys.
