Report: Tony Romo ‘throwing the ball around pretty good already’

Despite undergoing surgery to insert a plate onto his oft-injured collarbone just one month ago, Tony Romo is already well on his way to a full recovery. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported Friday that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is already “throwing the ball around pretty good” and is “off to a very good start” in his recovery.

At this point, Cowboys fans are probably hoping Romo can just take it easy and let the darn thing heal up already instead of rushing back.

But from a football perspective, provided he’s operating within prescribed guidelines, Romo wants to get back onto the practice field with his teammates as quickly as possible. A lost season in 2015 has to rankle Romo, who has a limited shelf life now at the age of 35.

If the fast recovery continues to roll along ahead of schedule, there is still the issue of Romo’s back, which has also been a hindrance in recent years. However, a revised offseason regimen last year led to good results, and he said recently that his back is in better shape now than it has been in years.

Obviously this is good news for the Cowboys.

With a top-notch offensive line, an elite playmaker in Dez Bryant and stalwart tight end Jason Witten, Romo has the talent to get the ‘Boys to a championship game. Also, don’t rule out Jerry Jones taking Ezekiel Elliott in the first round.

But everything hinges on Romo’s ability to get healthy and stay healthy. This report indicates he’s well on his way to the first task.
