Report: Jared Goff meeting with 49ers Monday

Get excited, San Francisco 49ers fans. The San Francisco 49ers are hosting Cal quarterback Jared Goff on Monday, less than two weeks away from the 2016 NFL Draft.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area broke this news Monday morning on the west coast.

Goff is rumored to be headed to the Los Angeles Rams, who own the No. 1 overall pick.

But as you should know by now, not all you hear or read about during this time of year is based on reality.

Smoke and mirrors are the tools of the trade in the weeks heading into the draft. Agents and teams constantly use the media, and not always necessarily for the benefit of a player (read more about Myles Jack’s latest news here for an example).

Because of this, it’s not out of the question that the Rams are actually targeting Carson Wentz out of North Dakota. All the rumors about the Rams taking Goff could be coming out of the Cleveland Browns, who actually love Wentz and his big hands and want teams to trade up for the No. 2 pick, targeting Goff.

The 49ers could potentially be one of those teams.

Ideally, in a perfect world, Goff would go to San Francisco and play with Chip Kelly. As Matt Miller of Bleacher Report continues to say, Goff is a perfect fit in Kelly’s fast-paced offense that requires precision and quick thinking to get the job done to maximum effect.

As we said in the opener, 49ers fans should be quite excited to hear this news. Goff’s ability to make good decisions in the face of pressure, and his accuracy all over the field, make him the perfect trigger man for this offense.

General manager Trent Baalke could potentially pull the trigger to move up to No. 2 from No. 7 on draft day. With Colin Kaepernick’s situation still in limbo and Blaine Gabbert as your only other option, you’re going to be looking for an upgrade.
