Report: Brian Hoyer to visit Broncos

The Denver Broncos, in desperate need of quarterback help, are reportedly set to kick the tires on Brian Hoyer, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hoyer is in New York after visiting with and taking a physical for the Jets. He is heading straight to Denver to meet up with Gary Kubiak, John Elway and the Broncos.

Both the Jets and Broncos are doing their just diligence here with Hoyer, who is not any better than average. He’s started 26 games in seven seasons, completing just 58.1 percent of his passes for 7,163 yards with 38 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.

However, the fact that Hoyer is heading to Denver right now suggests the Broncos don’t feel confident about maneuvering a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

At one point there was a report that the Broncos and 49ers had the framework of a deal worked out in terms of compensation. However, Kaepernick would not accept the $7 million per year for the next two years Elway wanted to pay him and he remains on San Francisco’s roster as a result.

No doubt the Broncos would rather have Kaepernick than Hoyer to compete with Mark Sanchez. He’s younger and possesses infinitely more upside than the career journeyman.

But at this point beggars can’t be choosers. The Broncos are cap-strapped and don’t have much leverage right now to land Kaepernick, though that could change as the draft draws near.
