Report: Brian Hoyer to visit with Jets today

As expected, recently released Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer is set to travel and meet with the New York Jets on Tuesday, weather permitting, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Hoyer was on the team’s radar last year before Ryan Fitzpatrick was signed, as pointed out by La Canfora. He’s also likely to be a much cheaper stop-gag option for the franchise as it attempts to land a franchise passer — something that has proven difficult over the years for Gang Green.

Speaking of Fitzpatrick, nothing has changed between him and the Jets. He’s still seeking almost double what the organization views his worth to be, and there is a growing chasm between the two sides as the stalemate continues to drag on.

In the meantime, it’s not surprising that the Jets are dipping into the severely depleted free agency market to try and find a willing partner who will fit the team’s needs while not breaking the bank.

Regardless of who is brought in to play quarterback for the Jets this upcoming year, fans should expect the team to once again draft a passer later this April.

Whether that means New York makes a big move in Round 1 or sees what it can land in the latter rounds remains to be seen. But with Geno Smith and Bryce Petty being the only other options right now — neither an attractive one — it’s clear this search is far from over.

Back to Hoyer, nobody should be surprised if the Jets make quick work of contract talks with the quarterback if the initial talks and workout go well for both sides.
