J.J. Watt having surgery to repair injured groin

After further injuring a groin injury in Saturday’s 30-0 blowout loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt will go under the knife for surgery on Tuesday.

An unquestioned tough customer, Watt would not speculate when asked if he could possibly play next weekend, if Houston were still in the playoffs.

Based on the way he stayed on the bench following the play that caused him to leave the game on Saturday (watch here), we’re going to assume he would have stayed sidelined.

It was a terrible way to end another magnificent season for the man who should walk away with his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in a row.

With 17.5 sacks (No. 1 in the NFL), 34 quarterback hits and 37 additional hurries, Watt was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and offensive lines all year long. His statistics would have likely been even more impressive if he hadn’t suffered a broken hand that caused him to play with a cast for three games.

No doubt the disappointing finish will only further motivate Watt to train even harder for the 2016 season.

Now, if only Houston could find itself a quarterback, the Texans could be real trouble for the rest of the AFC.
