After losing Zach Greinke to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly looking at replacing him with ace Johnny Cueto, who helped spark Kansas City’s World Series run.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports originally reported on this story, noting “Cueto is the most obvious way to upgrade a rotation that has gone backward this winter, thanks to the disappointing departure of Greinke.”
Cueto recently turned down a reported six-year deal worth $120 million, which gives you an idea what he and his agent believe he’s worth.
Playing with both the Cincinnati Reds and Royals last season, he compiled a record of 11-13 but turned it up a notch in the postseason, where he went 2-1, including a win over the New York Mets in the World Series. He brings a career record of 96-70 and an ERA of 3.30 and is one of the top free agent pitchers on the market this year.
Cueto is said to have “a couple other undisclosed teams in the mix” for his services but his market hasn’t been nearly as hot of late. Perhaps things will change on that front soon, with teams like San Francisco, St. Louis, Baltimore and Washington looking for starting pitchers to bolster their rotations.
