Ben Roethlisberger is hopeful he will play in Week 10

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who was carted off the field in last Sunday’s tilt against the Oakland Raiders, wants to be back in action this week.

When asked about playing this Sunday versus the Cleveland Browns, Roethlisberger answered, “I hope so,” per Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Roethlisberger sustained a mid-foot sprain in last week’s win against the Raiders and departed the game late in the fourth quarter. Though on Thursday, Roethlisberger was able to shed his walking boot and practice in limited form.

While Roethlisberger is positive about playing on Sunday, his actual status remains in doubt. With an injury that typically takes more than one week to heal, it might be wise to let Big Big sit this one out prior to the Steelers’ Week 11 bye to give the quarterback three weeks to regain full health.

On the other hand, Pittsburgh’s offense is undeniably more explosive when Roethlisberger is the one pulling the strings. Last weekend’s record-breaking output by Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams provided clarity in this regard, as if we needed any.

Landry Jones, who led the team on a successful series of plays that resulted in a game-winning field goal last week, will start if Roethlisberger is a no-go.
