Report: Chuck Pagano ‘doubts he returns’ to Colts in 2016

Amidst rumors of his impending departure from the Indianapolis Colts following the 2015 NFL season, head coach Chuck Pagano has reportedly told people close to him that he “doubts” he’ll be back in 2016.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted Sunday morning that Pagano bet on himself with his contract, which is in its final year, and that he is in a “prove-it” scenario.

No wonder he thinks he’s not coming back.

Through two games, the Colts have been downright abysmal in pretty much every way. They were completely pushed around in both opening contests, first by the Buffalo Bills on the road and then again by the New York Jets at home.

Andrew Luck has already thrown five interceptions this year, the running game stinks, even with the addition of Frank Gore, and the defense is so riddled with injuries on the back end Pagano admits he’s never seen anything like it in all his years of coaching.

This certainly appears to be a cloned copy of what happened in 2014 between Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers. Of course, winning cures all, and if the Colts suddenly figure out how to fix the offensive line and go on a winning streak, perhaps this talk of Pagano departing will simmer down.

In the meantime, however, the seat is getting awfully hot for the embattled head coach.
