Robert Woods Sets Super Bowl Expectations for the Bills

If you look at the Buffalo Bills roster, it becomes quite evident that they have one of the most talented squads in the AFC heading into the 2015 NFL draft.

After adding LeSean McCoy, Charles Clay and Percy Harvin to an offense that had been void of talent over the past few years, that side of the ball is finally starting to look up.

Led by new defensive-minded head coach Rex Ryan, Buffalo’s defense also seems to be among the best in the league. After all, this is a unit that finished fourth in the NFL in points against last season.

Overall things are starting to look up for a squad that finished the 2014 campaign with the franchise’s first winning record (9-7) since 2004. Now looking to earn a playoff spot for the first time since the Bill Clinton Administration, expectations seem to be rather high right now in Western New York.

Taking these expectations to an entirely new level, wide receiver Robert Woods told  WGR-AM in Buffalo that the team’s expectations include a trip to Santa Clara for the Super Bowl in February (h/t NFL.com).

Get to the Super Bowl,” Woods said of his expectations. “Nothing less than the Super Bowl with this team and the possibilities of our offense and our defense. That’s what we’re shooting for.”

At this point, the biggest thing holding Buffalo back from contention in the AFC East and a potential playoff spot is its quarterback position.

After throwing a combination of EJ Manuel and Kyle Orton out there last year, the Bills decided to change direction last month. They acquired Matt Cassel in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings and signed long-time Baltimore Ravens backup Tyrod Taylor. Those two will be competing with Manuel for the starting job during training camp.

For his part, Woods doesn’t seem too concerned over the quarterback situation.

I don’t think that slows us down,” Woods said. “During this time period we’re able to work with each and every quarterback that we have here. So the timing will be there. It’s going to make each quarterback better to have to make every throw because if you don’t the next one will and that’s great for this team.”

No matter what Woods says, the Bills quarterback situation is not ideal. Flush with talent at every position outside of quarterback, the team only needs a game manager under center. If the Bills are able to get that, they might be able to challenge the Patriots for the AFC East title. If not, Woods and company will be sitting home during the playoffs once again.
