Rams to Work Out Both Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota

Rumors of the St. Louis Rams targeting a quarterback early in the upcoming draft quieted down when the team acquired Nick Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles for Sam Bradford last month.

Despite that trade, it’s rather obvious that general manager Les Snead and company aren’t exactly happy with their quarterback situation.

According to NFL Media’s Albert Breer, the Rams will send a group of scouts and front office personnel to work out Jameis Winston on Florida State’s campus before they head to Eugene to give Oregon product Marcus Mariota a look (h/t Pro Football Talk).

St. Louis possesses the 10th pick in the draft later this month. It’s highly unlikely that either Winston or Mariota will be available there. Considering the Rams only have six total picks in the draft, they don’t necessarily have the ability to move up too much in the top 10.

In addition to acquiring Nick Foles last month, St. Louis picked up Case Keenum in a trade with the Houston Texans. Keenum is expected to compete with Austin Davis as the team’s primary backup. That’s a less-than-ideal scenario for a franchise that has not found itself in a good quarterback situation over the past few years. So looking into both Mariota and Winston seems to make some sense.
