Chicago Bears Confirm Decision to Stick With Jay Cutler at Quarterback

There have been many conflicting reports over the past several weeks that the Chicago Bears might move on from quarterback Jay Cutler. However, the Bears have just confirmed they plan to stick with Cutler as the team’s starter moving forward.

Despite previous reports that the Bears might want to shop Cutler in a trade, nothing had been confirmed.

In fact, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport indicated that no quarterback-needy teams that he has spoken with viewed Cutler as being on the block.

Cutler is currently in the midst of a seven-year, $126.7 million contract that takes him through the 2020 season.

During the course of his six years in Chicago, Cutler has thrown for a total of 18,725 yards with 129 touchdowns and 93 interceptions. Cutler’s 3,818 passing yards and 28 touchdowns in 2014 are actually his best stats since he began playing with the Bears in 2009. With that said, Cutler tallied the most turnovers of any quarterback in the NFL last season, including 18 interceptions.

Cutler’s contract made him an undesirable commodity. And no matter what Bears brass may want us to believe, retaining him likely wasn’t the team’s first choice.
