Alabama RB Dismissed from Team after Marijuana Arrest

University of Alabama running back Tyren Jones was dismissed from the team on Tuesday after being arrested for possession of marijuana.

Jones, Alabama’s fourth-leading rusher from a season ago, was apparently stopped by police for speeding, at which point he was arrested on second-degree marijuana charges.

This represents the third arrest of an Alabama football player in four days. Defensive back Geno Smith was arrested on DUI charges Saturday morning. Just a few hours later, defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor was arrested on domestic violence charges. Smith was not dismissed from the program, while Taylor, coming off a third arrest in two years, was kicked off the team.

Jones was already suspended indefinitely for “conduct not to the standard of the Alabama football program” in February, according to head football coach Nick Saban.
