The debut of Zion Williamson went as well as anyone could have hoped for, as the sensational rookie made NBA history with a couple of insane stats.
It didn’t take Zion long to make his impact felt, even if his game was a bit sloppy in the first few minutes. All told, Williamson tallied 22 points on 8-of-11 from the floor, hauled in seven rebounds and dished three assists in 18 minutes of play.
According to Elias Sports, Williamson became the only player in history to go 4-of-4 from behind the three-point line in a player’s NBA debut.
As if that wasn’t absurd enough, Williamson’s 22 points in 18 minutes made him the first player to score 20-plus points without playing 20-plus minutes in his NBA debut.
The Pelicans knew what kind of superstar they landed when they made Zion Williamson the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. He wowed every single night when he played at Duke last year. And if he can stay healthy (that seems like a big “if” right now) he’ll do the same as a pro.
