Jim Boeheim praises Zion Williamson, takes dig at Charles Barkley

Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orange might have taken out the No. 1-ranked Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium Monday night. But it wasn’t for a lack of effort from all-everything Duke freshman Zion Williamson.

Known as Mt. Zion, the forward is the likely No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. He looked the part for Coach K and Co., going for 35 points and 10 boards in the loss.

Following the game, Boeheim offered an interesting comparison to Williamson. It’s a comparison that won’t make Hall of Famer Charles Barkley too happy.

“He’s like Charles Barkley was, except he shoots better and he’s not as fat.”

Here’s a 74-year-old man dragging Chuck to the court. We fully expect Barkley to respond in kind at some point this week. The Turner Sports broadcaster will be on the boob tube here soon to give his counter.

Williamson, 18, is already being compared to the likes of LeBron James and others. For good reason. The teenager is averaging 20.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting at a 67 percent mark from the field.

Let’s just hope he stays in shape and doesn’t take to riding a cart around the golf course. Bazinga!
