Zack Greinke to undergo MRI Friday for abdominal tightness

Zach Greinke

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke was cruising toward his sixth win of the season on Wednesday when he came up with an injury on his 95th pitch of the game.

Video showed Greinke in obvious discomfort after that pitch. He immediately called for a trainer and after being examined left the game.

On Thursday, the Diamondbacks said Greinke was dealing with abdominal tightness, and Zach Buchanon of The Athletic reported the ace will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the injury.

Greinke has been phenomenal this season for the Diamondbacks. He has a record of 6-1 with a 2.78 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 62 strikeouts in 64.2 innings of work. Needless to say, Arizona would be hard pressed to replace him if he is forced to miss any extended time with the injury.
