New York Yankees reliever Chad Green will have Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season, manager Aaron Boone confirmed Sunday.

The right-hander landed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow strain.

Green, who turns 31 on Tuesday, was 1-1 with one save and a 3.00 ERA in 14 appearances this season.

He exited Thursday’s 9-6 win at Baltimore in the sixth inning with discomfort in his right forearm.

Tommy John surgery is a reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow. The typical recovery time is about one year.

Green is 33-22 with 11 saves, a 3.17 ERA and 494 strikeouts in 272 games (24 starts) with New York since 2016.

Green is the second Yankees pitcher this weekend to be faced with Tommy John surgery. Boone said Saturday that right-hander Luis Gil will have the procedure.

Gil, 23, made one start for New York this season. He allowed four runs on five hits in four innings in the Yankees’ 15-7 victory against the Chicago White Sox on May 12.
