Yankees ace Luis Severino will get MRI on injured shoulder

This isn’t the news that an injury-plagued New York Yankees team needs early in the season.

Sidelined since spring training with rotator cuff inflammation, ace starter Luis Severino is headed back to New York to get an MRI. That’s according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

The good news here is that pain isn’t an issue. The bad news is that Severino just isn’t well enough to return to the bump.

Every time we talk about the rotator cuff, it has to be cause for alarm. The hope here is that Severino avoids the dreaded long-term injury.

Severino, 25, pitched to a 19-8 record with a 3.39 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while striking out 220 batters in 191.1 innings last season.
