Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson departs with hamstring tightness

New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson was removed from Wednesday afternoon’s game against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies due to right hamstring tightness.

Donaldson, 37, was pulled after he ran half-speed and grimaced on a flyout to right field for the first out of the second inning. The Yankees replaced him with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and said Donaldson would be evaluated again Thursday.

Donaldson is hitting .125 (2-for-16) through his first five games this season. Last year Donaldson batted .222 with 15 homers and 62 RBIs in 132 games after the Yankees acquired him from Minnesota along with Kiner-Falefa and catcher Ben Rortvedt for catcher Gary Sanchez and infielder Gio Urshela shortly after the lockout ended in March 2022.
