Talk about having a quick hook. Just a couple days after losing their opener to the Houston Roughnecks by the score of 37-17, the XFL’s Los Angeles Wildcats have fired defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson.

We’re not even 100% sure what to make of it. Sure the Los Angeles defense was eaten alive by the Roughnecks and quarterback P.J. Walker.

But one game into their inaugural season and head coach Winston Moss decides to pull the plug on one of his top assistants.

Johnson, 55, played 13 seasons as a linebacker in the NFL and is widely respected as defensive mind. He previously served as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.
