WWE is already making internal plans to pursue Persephone once her current contract situation opens up, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The 24-year-old signed with AEW earlier this year under a rare dual-contract arrangement that also allows her to continue competing in CMLL, but with that deal set to expire later this year, WWE has apparently been tracking her closely and is ready to act.
“Those in WWE are already talking about trying to get Persephone when her dual contract expires later this year,” Meltzer claimed.
The framing of WWE’s interest is notable given the earlier context around her signing. It was clarified earlier this year that WWE never spoke to Persephone while she was under contract with CMLL, meaning the narrative that she chose AEW over WWE was inaccurate — WWE was legally unable to make a move at the time. The promotion appears to have used that window to keep a close eye on her rather than move on entirely, and internal discussions are now reportedly underway ahead of her deal expiring.
Persephone’s dual-contract setup made her AEW signing one of the more unique arrangements in recent memory, allowing her to maintain her CMLL commitments while beginning her run with the promotion. That arrangement has a defined endpoint, however, and once it does, she could quickly become one of the most in-demand signings on the market, given the interest already present on both sides.
For AEW, the situation raises an obvious question about long-term planning. If WWE is already talking internally about pursuing Persephone, the pressure is on the promotion to move toward a long-term extension before that window opens.
