A new rumor reveals the real reason why WWE is interested in bringing Baron Corbin back, and it isn’t because of his wrestling skills.

In August 2012, former Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Thomas Pestock made the jump to professional wrestling when he signed a developmental deal with WWE. He would eventually go under the name of Baron Corbin and become a force in the early days of the black-and-gold brand.

Four years later, he would get the call to the WWE main roster, where he had solid success. Winning the 2016 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, the 2017 Money in the Bank contract, and the 2019 King of the Ring tournament. Yet, all good things come to an end, and after 12 years in the company, WWE chose to pass on offering him a new contract when his deal expired in November 2024.

However, it was reported earlier this week that WWE is interested in bringing back the man who has used the ring name Bishop Dyer on the independent scene. The news surprised many, especially after WWE had moved on from close to 30 wrestlers over the last few weeks. But some clarity on why they are close to, or have re-signed Corbin, emerged on Thursday.

WWE bringing Baron Corbin back to boost morale?

According to Wrestle Votes, WWE wants Corbin back in the company because he was a locker room favorite throughout his original run in the company. Following so many departures, especially of well-liked veterans like Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Kairi Sane, it seems like management wants some more veteran leaders on the roster and to boost morale.

The company is clearly going with a major youth movement currently, so bringing in more veterans is a good thing. Furthermore, Corbin will likely come at a more preferable cost compared to the stars that were released recently.
