More details have emerged about WWE’s planned pursuit of current TNA World Champion Mike Santana.

Right now, the professional wrestling industry is as healthy as it has been in decades. WWE is putting up historic numbers each year. AEW has become a viable No. 2 option that continues to grow around the world. TNA Wrestling has had a major reemergence over the last three years — with some help from WWE. And the independent scene has strong offerings with companies like MLW and HOG.

Since there is a lot of talent in the industry, it means fans get to see a lot of movement between promotions, and performers can have very lucrative jumps into free agency. It looks like current TNA champ Santana is set to be the next veteran star to cash in on the open market.

Earlier this week, PW Insider reported that the multi-time tag champion’s TNA contract is set to expire next month. Previous reports have claimed WWE would be interested in signing him once he became available, since they enjoyed working with him when he made appearances in NXT on behalf of TNA last year.

Well, more information has emerged on the company’s expected pursuit of the Impact Wrestling and AEW veteran. According to Wrestle Votes, WWE’s interest in signing Santana remains, and they would like to have him competing on the main roster by the end of the year if they acquire his services.

If his contract does indeed expire next month, the report would suggest that WWE would first send him to NXT. That has become a common practice for the company with many former stars from AEW and TNA, including Ricky Saints, Blake Monroe, and Joe Hendry. The 35-year-old is a two-time TNA Champion.
