There has been a lot of speculation over the last year about who might one day replace Paul “Triple H” Levesque as WWE’s backstage leader. This week, a surprising name emerged who could soon be the head of creative’s “right-hand man.”
In January 2024, a legendary and infamous era in WWE history came to an end. After more allegations of sexual abuse emerged in a new lawsuit, Vince McMahon was once and for all forced out as the top decision maker in the company he created.
For years, his son-in-law, Triple H, was groomed as a potential replacement. So when the time came for new leadership to take over, the transition was easy. The WWE legend is unlikely to stick around as long as McMahon did. Especially with recent rumors about potential political aspirations. So the company must start preparation for his eventual replacement.
Last month, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes claimed he thought he could be a potential option due to his part in forming AEW and serving as a vice president. However, he admitted other stars like CM Punk and Seth Rollins could also be in line to one day lead the creative side of the company. But another name has emerged in the backstage succession battle in WWE.
Could Pete Dunne eventually replace Triple H?

“Pete Dunne is probably one of, if not the best, minds I’ve ever come across when it comes to wrestling,” Former WWE talent Ridge Holland told Cultaholic Wrestling. “How he puts matches together, how he structures things, just his whole outlook on wrestling in general, I think he’s one of the best. I just wish that people would listen to him more and he’d have more impact, and I think that will come with his backstage role.
“I think he will end up being Triple H’s right-hand man, and I think Hunter sees him that way,” he added. “He’s going to end up doing big things behind the scenes. If he doesn’t do big things on-screen, behind the scenes, I think you’ll see a lot more things that Peter’s had his fingers on.”
While he is currently serving as one of the three Americanos, there have been reports over the last year of Dunne’s expanded role backstage. Serving as a match producer in NXT, AAA, and the main roster.
He is a stark contrast to Triple H, Punk, Rhodes, and Rollins because he has not had a fraction of their success. But he has always been highly respected in the industry, and McMahon was never a wrestler before creating the biggest wrestling company of all time.
