WWE internal discussions have reportedly picked up regarding an immediate character shift for Trick Williams following his connection with the main roster audience.

Despite being introduced as a heel on the SmackDown brand in early 2026, the former NXT Champion has received overwhelming fan support, forcing creative officials to reconsider his long-term plans.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, the strength of the “Whoop That Trick” chants has led to a “strong sentiment” within the company that Williams should be positioned as a top-level babyface. The decision to initially present Williams as a heel was made before his official call-up, but the experiment has yielded unexpected results.

During recent broadcasts, including the February 20 episode of SmackDown, fans have consistently hijacked segments to sing along with his entrance and chant his signature catchphrase. Even during episodes where Williams was not physically present, such as the February 16 Raw, crowds in cities like Memphis have reportedly chanted for him throughout unrelated matches.

While Williams was a top babyface during his time in NXT, WWE officials were reportedly curious to see if that popularity would translate to larger arenas on the main roster. The transition has been seamless, as Williams was often the most overperformer on the roster during rare NXT arena events.

Behind the scenes, the belief is that Williams has “earned the right” to be a babyface through his charisma and performance alongside established veterans like Damian Priest and Carmelo Hayes.

The potential character flip comes at a pivotal time as WWE prepares for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Williams recently secured a career milestone by qualifying for the Men’s Elimination Chamber match, which will take place this Saturday in Chicago. He is set to compete against Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, LA Knight, Jey Uso, and Je’Von Evans for a shot at Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
