WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is reportedly nearing a return to action for the company.
Wrestling fans have not seen legendary luchador Rey Mysterio in a WWE ring since the spring. He was originally set to face El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41. However, a day before the event, it was revealed he had suffered a torn abductor muscle and was removed from the card.
Well, the former WWE champion may finally be nearing a return. According to PW Insider Elite, Mysterio is expected to be at the Performance Center this week as he looks to get cleared by company doctors to get back to in-ring action.
Could Mysterio appear at WWE Crown Jewel in a couple of weeks?
The health update on Rey Mysterio is great news for his legion of fans. With him so close to being cleared, fans will wonder if the door may be open for him to make an appearance in Australia next weekend for the company’s next premium live event, WWE Crown Jewel.
With the event just over a week away, it seems highly unlikely that there will be enough time to set up and promote his return at the event. However, there is a chance he could be a surprise for the fans in Perth on Oct. 11. It is more likely he is being set up for something different in the months ahead.
Will Rey Mysterio face Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Championship?
Mysterio has made appearances at AAA events that his son, Dominik, competed on in recent months. It is unlikely that it is a coincidence and is probably a setup for more to come. Then came World Collide in September, and the younger Mysterio won AAA’s top title.
Before the match, the pair made a bet that if Dominik was victorious, his father would have to put the belt around him. The Hall of Famer did so, but not without a verbal lashing from his offspring. It seems likely the company has been slowly laying the groundwork for a future match between the two for one of Mexican wrestling’s most important championships.
