WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is reportedly taking a significant step toward his in-ring return.

According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite, Mysterio is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, again this week.

His presence at the company’s training facility is a strong indication that he is in the final stages of his recovery from multiple injuries and could be medically cleared for a return to WWE television in the near future. Mysterio has been sidelined since April 2025 after suffering a torn groin just before WrestleMania 41, an injury that forced him out of his scheduled match at the event.

Rey Mysterio’s Injury

During an appearance on the LA PLATICA podcast, Mysterio detailed the surprisingly simple way the injury occurred. “The guy that I was wrestling stood in front of me. He bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope and I went to chase him and when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a (rip),” Mysterio explained. “Like, that’s it? I tore my groin like that? And yeah, usually it happens on the simplest sh*t.”

During his time away from the ring, Mysterio also underwent a procedure to repair a ruptured eardrum. He has since been undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation process for both injuries. Speaking on his recovery, he stated, “Good. Pretty good. I started my PT. Not to mention, I had a busted eardrum as well so I fixed that during my time off. I’m on the road to recovery.” While he had initially targeted a return by August, his upcoming visit to the Performance Center suggests the process is now nearing completion.

A potential return for Mysterio would be a major boost for WWE, as a previous report from WrestleVotes Radio indicated that the company has significant plans for him within its partnership with AAA. According to that report, WWE wants to feature Mysterio in a “major role” as part of the ongoing crossover between the two companies. This could involve another co-branded streaming event before the end of the year.
