In the wake of Andrade’s return to AEW on Dynamite, a new report has provided insight into the circumstances surrounding his recent departure from WWE.

Andrade appeared on the sixth-anniversary edition of the program on Wednesday, attacking Kenny Omega and aligning with The Don Callis Family. The return was possible because he was not subject to a 90-day non-compete clause, and details have now come out explaining why WWE allowed him to become an immediate free agent.

According to a report from PWInsider.com, which cites information from multiple sources within WWE, Andrade was released from the company due to “numerous WWE Wellness violations over the last year.” The accuracy of this initial report has since been confirmed by sources who spoke with WrestlingNews.co.

Why Andrade Could Return to AEW So Quickly

The WWE Talent Wellness Program was established in 2006 and creates standards for cardiovascular health, medical testing, and substance abuse, with violations leading to suspensions or, in some cases, termination of contract.

Due to the nature of his departure, WWE reportedly made the decision to “cut Andrade outright.” This means that instead of paying him for the standard 90-day period during which a released performer is unable to appear for other wrestling promotions, the company opted for a straightforward release.

This action made him a free agent with immediate effect, clearing the path for him to sign with any company, including AEW. His prior bookings for independent events in the United States and Mexico, which surfaced shortly after his WWE exit, served as an early indicator of his status.

Andrade’s Past Issues

This is not the first instance of Andrade being connected to a WWE Wellness Policy issue. During his first tenure with the company, he was suspended for 30 days in January 2020 for his first violation of the policy. At that time, WWE publicly announced the suspension, which saw him miss several weeks of television programming while he was the reigning United States Champion.

His immediate availability allowed AEW to incorporate him into storylines without delay. The timing of his release and return to the Jacksonville-based promotion provided a significant moment for the anniversary show and immediately established him as a key figure within the heel faction led by Don Callis.

Now that he is officially a member of the AEW roster again, Andrade El Idolo looks to re-establish his presence in the company. It appears AEW is building towards a match with Omega at WrestleDream. This would mark his first major program since re-signing with the promotion.
