WWE has a history of welcoming back former champions after a significant time away. Whether they’ve been competing elsewhere or taking a break from the ring. In the near future, several former titleholders from both the men’s and women’s divisions could potentially make their way back to the company. Here are five former WWE Champions who should return to the company in the coming months.

Jeff Hardy

Following a brief period in All Elite Wrestling, Jeff Hardy returned to TNA Wrestling, reuniting with his brother Matt. The Hardy Boyz currently hold both the NXT and TNA World Tag Team Championships and are featured regularly on both brands. Although Jeff hasn’t focused much on singles competition since his TNA return, a full-time comeback to WWE could change that. Re-signing could lead to renewed rivalries with stars like Randy Orton and CM Punk, or create fresh matchups against names such as Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.

Nic Nemeth

Since his WWE release in 2023, Nic Nemeth (formerly Dolph Ziggler) has competed in multiple promotions. He captured the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship in NJPW before signing with TNA Wrestling in 2024. Nemeth has experienced a career resurgence in TNA, winning both the TNA World Championship and the World Tag Team Championship. If Nemeth were to re-sign with WWE, it could open opportunities for him to work with newer additions to the roster like Penta, Rey Fenix, or Jacob Fatu.

Mickie James

Fans recently saw Mickie James back on WWE programming through the reality show LFG. The six-time WWE Women’s Champion was wrestling consistently until recently, holding the TNA Knockouts World Championship in 2023. A return to WWE might be feasible given that her husband, Nick Aldis, currently works as the SmackDown General Manager and a backstage producer. Considering her extensive accomplishments across various promotions, it could be the right time for James to make a full-time return to the WWE women’s division.

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is a legendary figure in professional wrestling, having held championships in numerous companies. Recently, rumors have surfaced suggesting his AEW contract may expire in late 2025 or early 2026, coupled with reported interest from WWE for a potential return. A comeback after seven years away could see Jericho immediately positioned as a top star, facing current big names like Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, or Jey Uso, as well as working with newer talent.

Saraya

In March 2025, Saraya announced her departure from All Elite Wrestling after a three-year stint. She initially gained fame in WWE as Paige, where she became a two-time Divas Champion and the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion. A return to WWE under her Paige persona could create intriguing storylines and feuds within the current women’s division. Potential fresh opponents like Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Liv Morgan, and Roxanne Perez offer compelling matchup possibilities upon her return.
