One-time WWE star Mr. Kennedy offered up a bold claim this week. Company icons John Cena and Randy Orton worked together to get him fired from the company.
Mr. Kennedy is one of the great what-if stories in WWE history. After debuting in the summer of 2005, he emerged as one of the rising stars in the company because of his unique entrance and mic skills that separated him from other talent.
However, at different points when it seemed like he would break through into the main event scene, different things derailed his rise to the next level. Be it injuries. Getting suspended for his role in the Signature Pharmacy scandal or rubbing some backstage the wrong way, he never reached his potential before being released in 2009.
Mr. Kennedy has admitted his part in losing his WWE job. However, during an appearance on the Tagging in with Chris Harris podcast, the former WWE star suggested the future Hall of Famers expedited his departure from the company.
“I believe that Randy and John worked together [to get him fired],” the man once known as Mr. Kennedy said. “They decided that day [when he dropped Orton on his head during a match], ‘Let’s f***ing get him gone.’ And it worked.
“It is what it is. I said this before. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but had I been doing what I should have done daily, that never would have occurred,” he added. “They could have gone to Vince and said whatever they wanted to.”
