It seems that Jacob Fatu losing teeth on this week’s SmackDown is related to the mystery injury he is reportedly dealing with.

Heading into this week’s SmackDown, BodySlam.net broke some surprising news. The outlet claimed that the former United States champion was dealing with a non-wrestling-related injury and could potentially be sidelined “well into 2026.”

However, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis revealed just before the event that Fatu would be in action on Friday in a huge No. 1 contenders match for the WWE Undisputed title against Drew McIntyre. So it seemed like BodySlam.net’s report was inaccurate. Or maybe it wasn’t?

Just before the match, cameras discovered Fatu in the backstage area after an attack, and it looked like he had several teeth that were knocked loose and spat out on the ground. Well, it seems like that was done by WWE for a specific reason.

Dental procedure why Jacob Fatu written out of SmackDown match

According to PW Insider, the word backstage at SmackDown on Friday was that Jacob Fatu was still recovering from a recent dental procedure and was not cleared by the medical team to return to the ring. However, contrary to BodySlam.Net’s report, the former Bloodline member is expected to be cleared very soon.

That may explain why McIntyre was not made the automatic No. 1 contender after Fatu was forced out of the bout, or a replacement opponent was announced by Nick Aldis. It seems likely Fatu will find his way into the title situation with two weeks remaining before Saturday Night’s Main Event on Nov. 1.
