David Finlay appears to have concluded his run with NJPW. During the “New Beginning in Osaka” event held on Wednesday, February 11, at the Edion Arena Osaka, Finlay suffered a surprising singles defeat at the hands of Callum Newman. Following the match, a visibly emotional Finlay took a moment to bow to the audience.
According to BodySlam.net, the second-generation star has already been a subject of internal creative discussions within WWE. While there has been no official confirmation that a contract has been signed, the company is reportedly preparing for his arrival.
Finlay’s brother is currently competing under the name Uriah Connors on the NXT roster. His father, Fit Finlay, also works for the promotion.
Finlay’s NJPW contract has been a topic of interest for several weeks, with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select noting that the leader of the Bullet Club War Dogs was expected to enter free agency in early 2026. Now, it comes down to where he wants to go.
Where Will David Finlay Land?
Aside from the obvious in WWE, AEW is going to be a spot for fans to keep an eye on, as there was a recent Fightful Select report that revealed the promotion has been active in the market and already secretly signed several wrestlers.
In AEW hee could still work in NJPW. They have a bloated roster with plenty of names not being used. Unless future dates in NJPW are a priority, AEW looks to be the clear second option.
It seems like WWE is the probable landing spot for Finlay. Not only do you have the family connection, but you also have a higher ceiling and a great opening spot should he pick it. NXT is looking for its next big star because of call-ups, and right now, it’s pretty bleak.
With that, not only could he come in with a big push, but he could also become the guy on the brand within months. Regardless of where he goes, his unique look and style will give him a great chance to become a real player in the business.
