Cody Rhodes has singled out Gunther vs. Seth Rollins as the WrestleMania 42 match he is most looking forward to watching as a fan.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up on Tuesday morning, Rhodes was asked to identify which bout on the card excites him most outside of his own, and he pointed to the Night 1 clash between the two without hesitation.

“There’s always a little bit of that split between the sports entertainment and the wrestling. The sports and the entertainment,” Rhodes said. “And the one that’s old-school sports style that I really like, just good, old-fashioned wrestling: Gunther vs. Seth Rollins. I’m all about that. That’s a wrestler’s wrestling match.”

Rollins has been out of action since suffering a shoulder injury during his match against Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel in October 2025. WWE reportedly considered multiple opponents for his return before landing on Gunther, and the matchup has drawn considerable anticipation given both performers’ in-ring credentials. For Rhodes, the appeal is straightforward — it is a match built around wrestling rather than spectacle, which is the kind of bout he clearly has a deep appreciation for.

Rhodes also addressed the Pat McAfee situation during the ESPN appearance, describing the broadcaster as a “rat” who is surrounded by people who do not tell him “no” enough. McAfee has inserted himself into the build toward Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Randy Orton and will be in Orton’s corner for the match on Night 1 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18.
