Cody Rhodes believes WWE is sitting on a “sleeper” hit with WrestleMania 42, predicting that the event could go down as the best in the company’s history.
Appearing on Complex Graps, the Undisputed WWE Champion shared his confidence in the “bell-to-bell” quality of the card, despite the numerous creative shifts and injuries that have plagued the buildup.
Rhodes stated that the technical wrestling this year is being prioritized at a level he hasn’t seen since his childhood. As to why? Rhodes pointed to the two top title matches as the anchors for this prediction.
Night 2 is set to be headlined by CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. This is a match that Rhodes believes will be a masterclass in storytelling.
For Night 1, Rhodes himself is scheduled to defend his Undisputed Title against his former mentor, Randy Orton. This is a match that was recently finalized following a creative pivot away from a Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre.
“I think we’re sitting on a sleeper Mania… This year, the matches, we had our main event with CM Punk and Roman Reigns, and now we just got to me versus Randy Orton as the other main event… I think you’re looking at a bell-to-bell Mania that’s the best it’s been,” Rhodes stated.
Beyond the confirmed title bouts, Rhodes teased that fans should keep an eye on the “grandeur and spectacle” of the event. He mentioned seeing an internal sheet listing potential celebrity guests and legends, which he found “really, really exciting”.
Rhodes also challenged fans to watch the show for the “potentials” of the roster—naming Je’Von Evans, Oba Femi, and Kit Wilson as the future top stars. He predicted that these performers would be the ones main-eventing the event in a decade from now.
